I just found this site and discovered that I can now do searches with Google Maps on my computer, plot out my trip and then save it to a SD card. It has a drop down menu so you can select what year and model your VW is and it will select the right software to download for your Navi unit. I downloaded the sync software to the SD card I would be putting in the Tig. I used a 512mb card and after 20 destinations and the software itself, I have around 500mb left. I tried it out today and it works perfectly! So now I can port all of my fishing holes from google maps to the Tig! Hi all from Kingsville, Ontario.

Just spent some time with NavTeq. We have a 2010 EOS and 2011 Tiguan for which I was going to get updates. As you said.$200 plus $29 for shipping.
I agree that I can get a much better unit including traffic alerts for less than that. Very disappointed in VW's support on that. Also, does anyone know if the firmware update for the RNS-510 is available for the 2010 and 2011 models? My dealer says no?? Love to drive my VW's, but a bit more recognition of customer concerns would be nice.

Need some help. Where can I find information on the different variations of RNS Units. For example, difference between a Version C and Version E. Also, once you have inputted the firmware and map updates, do the units work/perform the same?Did you read the first post in this thread?
If you haven't you should. As for your 2nd question, the simple answer is no.
Generaly as the letter version increases the 510 was improved. C's can run a max Firmware of 1140, E's can run up to 4366.
Starting with SOME of the J units, the HardDrive was switched to a SSD, and it gives some marginal improvement in drive access. If it has Firmware 4369 or higher it has an SSD. Some J's have SSD's, Some K's have the older classic drives, and All L's as far as I can tell have the SSD's. Hope that helps. OK, so I'm struggling here, and have been for the past week or so It's an RNS 510 C.
Firmware is 1140 (recently upgraded) with VIM (also recently upgraded). Car is a 2009 GTI that came with a V1 maps version. I've the original DVD.
